The 4th Annual European Union Film Festival in China will be held from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30 in Beijing and two other major Chinese cities, according to a press conference held Wednesday. The film festival, organized by the Delegation of the European Union to China and supported by the Embassy of Poland, will invite all 27 EU Member States to showcase one recent, popular and successful film. According to EU Ambassador Markus Ederer, more and more Chinese people are interested in European films, with 5,000 moviegoers in 2008 and 13,000 in 2010. He said that the EU Film Festival provides a good chance for Chinese people to appreciate EU films and learn about their development, which could also lead the Chinese audience to acquire a better understanding of European culture. He hopes the festival will attract more Chinese people to see European films so that China will import more European movies. The films to be screened during the festival will be a diverse mix of local flavors, and will include comedies, dramas, documentaries, and suspense films. People can see those movies in commercial theaters as well as in cultural institutes. During the festival, people can see France\'s \"The Piano Tuner,\" Denmark\'s \"Aching Hearts,\" Italy\'s \"20 Cigarettes,\" and Portugal\'s \"Beauty and the Paparazzo.\" Each film will be screened in its original language with English and Chinese subtitles. The first EU Film Festival in China was held in Beijing in December 2008, and has been held annually ever since.
