The China Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) will debut at the annual Henry Wood Promenade Concerts (BBC Proms) in July in London, the CPO told Xinhua on Tuesday. The CPO will stage a concert on the evening of July 19 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, marking the second concert of the series. The program will include the "Pomp and Circumstance Marches" by British composer Edward Elgar, Liszt's First Piano Concerto and the "Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture" by Tchaikovsky, among other works. The concert will also feature a trumpet concerto written by Chinese composer Chen Qigang for the event. The concerto will be performed by Alison Balsom, one of the world's finest trumpet players, and the CPO. Yu Long, who will conduct the concert, said the trumpet concerto blends Chinese traditional opera with Western classical music.
