Mariah Carey has kicked off a 10-day concert tour of China in Beijing's Worker's Stadium. It's part of her world tour, titled "The Elusive Chanteuse Show." This marks the pop star's first tour in China, and there are many excited fans.
Pop diva Mariah Carey is bringing her world tour to China. "The Elusive Chanteuse Show " is in support of her fourteenth studio album which was released in May.
This is her first ever tour of the Chinese Mainland. Carey's only previous appearance in China was a lone concert in Shanghai in 2003, so many fans have been looking forward to this.
"I have been listening to her songs and I found out two months ago that she would hold concerts in China. I came from another city just for her concert," a fan said.
This is Carey's eighth concert tour and her first re-emergence since her last tour in 2006. At Friday's concert, the pop star performed for an announced crowd of 38,000 at Beijing Worker's Stadium. It was a moment long in the making for some of Carey's fans.
"I am a local Beijinger but I don't usually go to concerts. But when I heard that Mariah Carey was going to hold concerts in China, I had to come. She is a superstar who I followed when I was young. I grew up with her songs. I am so happy I can see her in person today. I am very happy," a fan said.
Mariah Carey is one of a number of Western performers eyeing China's booming music market. Her concert stop in Beijing will be followed by performances in Chengdu, Chongqing, Tianjin, and Shanghai.
