Entertainment giant Live Nation on Thursday announced a "National Concert Day" with leading stars to kick off the US summer season.
Rappers Kid Rock and Wiz Khalifa, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and the country duo Florida Georgia Line will be among acts to perform at a concert Tuesday in New York.
Live Nation described this year's concert as an inaugural event which it hopes will recognize artists and workers at show venues -- and help stimulate interest among fans.
The summer concert season, and especially festivals, has increasingly become a crucial money-maker for artists.
Live Nation on Tuesday announced it was buying a controlling stake in Bonnaroo, one of the most prominent US music festivals and one of the few that was still independently run.
