Bahrain said Monday its defense agreement with Britain was related to regional and energy security.
"The agreement provides military facilities in Bahrain's Defense Force Base at Salman Port within the framework of a military agreement between the two countries," official BNA news agency quoted Information Minister Isa Al-Hamadi as saying following a cabinet meeting.
He said the agreement is related to regional security and energy security, specially that the Arabian Gulf region is a major source of oil and gas.
The defense agreement, signed in Manama on December 6, aims at developing a British Royal Navy facility at Bahrain Defence Force base at Salman port.
The expansion of the British Royal Navy facilities would increase its operation.
