Encroachments on an area of 5,500 sq. meters have been removed from the Rashid branch of the Nile, the Irrigation Ministry said on Thursday.
On January 5, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazi launched a national campaign to remove such encroachments.
In a statement, Moghazi said the ministry is keen on removing all encroachments on the Nile River.
He promised that the law will be firmly applied against offenders who will be strictly punished.
