Minister of Environment Khaled Fahmy said Egypt welcomes any cooperation in the field of energy as part of the initiative to produce new sources for energy in Africa in 2020.
In statements to MENA, Fahmy highlighted the necessity of activating the special energy program within four to five months in order to enable Egypt be involved in this field in the African continent during its presidency of African Ministerial Council on Environment (AMCEN).
He said the technical meeting for Africa 2020 Access to Renewables initiative, held in Cairo over the past two days, discussed means of expanding sources of the new and renewable energy in the black continent.
The minister asserted that Egypt is keen on organizing the African conferences in this respect at the highest levels.
The meeting comes after a technical consultative meeting for the Africa 2020 Access to Renewables initiative was held in United Nations Conference Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was co-organized by UNEP, UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and African Union with the aim of consulting with some African countries and relevant partners on opportunities to boost the production of renewable energies in Africa up to 10 gigawatts by 2020.
