300,000 people at Spanish unity rally in Barcelona

About 300,000 people turned out for a rally in favour of Spanish unity in Barcelona on Sunday, municipal police said, while organisers estimated turnout at 1.1 million.
The demonstration comes two days after Catalan lawmakers voted to declare the wealthy region of 7.5 million people an independent republic.
