President Pierre Nkurunziza
Bujumbura - Arab Today

Burundi will release hundreds of protesters who were arrested in more than a week of deadly demonstrations and reopen key radio stations if protests end, the vice president said Tuesday.

"To create a climate of appeasement, the government is willing to release the young people who were arrested," said Prosper Bazombanza, as well as proposing to suspend arrest warrants issued against key civil society leaders and reopen independent radio stations, provided that "protests and the insurrection stop." Protests began 10 days ago over President Pierre Nkurunziza's bid to run for a controversial third term, a move approved by the country's constitutional court on Tuesday.
