For the second time in one month, Muhammad Ali Jr. was detained at a US airport and forced to proved his identity, according to the Associated Press.
This time, Ali Jr. was trying to make his way back to Florida, after spending time in Washington. He was reportedly meeting with lawmakers to discuss the Trump administration’s latest version of the travel ban and his previous detention at another US airport last month.
Although he was held up for only 20 minutes this time, Ali Jr. still had to speak with the Department of Homeland Security on the phone, show his passport and his driver’s license before he was free to board his flight home.
The family’s attorney, Chris Mancini, described the family’s theory on the recurring event; “To the family, it’s crystal clear that this is linked directly to Mr. Trump’s efforts to ban Muslims from the United States.”
Democratic Representative, Debbie Wasserman, was on the flight back with Ali Jr. and tweeted the following: “On way home on DOMESTIC FLIGHT Muhammad Ali Jr. detained AGAIN by @DHSgov. Religiously profiling son of ‘The Greatest’ will not make us safe.”
