Kim Dickens has joined the cast of The Walking Dead companion series.
The 49-year-old actress will star as guidance counselor Nancy Tomkins, with Alycia Debnam-Carey and Frank Dillane as her children Ashley and Nick. Cliff Curtis (Gang Related) will portray Nancy's boyfriend Sean Cabrera, a divorced school teacher.
The new AMC series, code-named Colbalt, will feature all new characters and take place outside of Georgia. The Walking Dead producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert will serve as executive producers on the pilot.

Dickens is best known for starring as Joanie Stubbs on HBO series Deadwood. She also portrayed Shelby Saracen on Friday Night Lights, Janette Desautel on Treme and Colette Jane on Sons of Anarchy. The actress most recently appeared in a David Fincher adaptation of Gone Girl.
The Walking Dead is based on Kirkman's comic book series of the same name, and debuted in 2010. The drama is in its fifth season, and currently on midseason break. Cobalt has yet to announced a premiere date.
