Showtime says it has renewed its Victorian era-set drama Penny Dreadful for a nine-episode, third season to premiere in 2016.
The announcement was made Tuesday by David Nevins, president of Showtime Networks Inc.
Created, written and executive produced by John Logan, the gothic horror series stars Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Reeve Carney, Helen McCrory, Harry Treadaway and Rory Kinnear. Season 3 will once again shoot on location in Dublin, Ireland.
"John Logan's brilliant writing and this amazingly talented ensemble continue to draw a passionate, global fan base into the meticulously crafted world of Penny Dreadful," Nevins said in a statement. "Together with our wonderful partners at Sky Atlantic, we're excited to see what new haunts John and his team have in store for Season 3."
