American cable television network Syfy says it plans to air a follow-up to its much-talked-about TV movie \"Sharknado\" in 2014. \"Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm -- on television,\" Thomas Vitale, Syfy\'s executive vice president of programming and original movies, said in a statement Wednesday. \"The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that \'Sharknado 2\' will be lots of fun. We\'ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn\'t want our fans to worry they wouldn\'t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year.\" Syfy also announced a special Twitter contest to help name the movie with an appropriate subtitle. Fans can tweet their submissions to @SyfyMovies using #Sharknado. \"In \'Sharknado,\' regulars of a beachside bar including owner Fin [played Ian Ziering,] bartender Nova [played by Cassie Scerbo] and local drunk George [played by John Heard] team up with Fin\'s ex-wife April [played by Tara Reid] to investigate the ecological nightmare that has sharks swimming through the streets of Los Angeles and falling from the skies,\" a synopsis said. The movie drew an average of 1.4 million viewers and attracted about 387,000 mentions on social media when it premiered July 11.
