The traditional "Yule Log" program is available online and through digital cable television in the United States through Jan. 2, its distributor announced. The image of a glowing log on a hearth, accompanied by traditional Christmas music, can be viewed for free at rentmoviesondemand.com and through video-on-demand for Xfinity, Cox Communications, Cablevision, Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Cablevision, Midcontinent and RCN cable systems. "This smoke-free and stoke-free fireplace will warm up any holiday party when a big-screen TV is transformed into a crackling hearth," a news release from distributor iN Demand said. The original televised "Yule Log" has been airing on broadcast TV since 1966. iN Demand first produced the high-definition version starting in 2002 and then lit it up on video-on-demand in 2007. A 3D version, which became available in 2010, was originally produced exclusively for cable. To see the 3D version, viewers need a 3D TV with compatible 3D glasses and an HD set-top box connected according to their system's specs. The program will also air on the Tribune-owned super-stations WGN, Chicago, and on WPIX, New York, Christmas morning.
