Organisers of Ed Sheeran’s Dubai gig have confirmed the singer’s November 23 date with the city will be “going ahead as planned” in the wake of an accident, which has forced him to cancel several of his shows across Asia.

In a statement to Gulf News tabloid!, Thomas Ovesen, CEO of 117Live said: “We have now received an update from the Ed Sheeran team that he is unable to perform for the immediate future.”

“Since Dubai is the last show of the season we have been told that the show is still going ahead as planned.”

Oveson further stated: “Until we receive any further feedback from Ed we are sending him get well wishes from Dubai and we hope to see him soon.”

Updates about Sheeran’s condition have been released across his social media accounts, with the latest Facebook post saying: “A visit to my doctors confirmed fractures in my right wrist and left elbow that will leave me unable to perform live concerts for the immediate future.

“Sadly, this means that the following shows will not be able to go ahead as planned: Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong.”

The message continued: “I’m waiting to see how the healing progresses before we have to decide on shows beyond that. Please stay tuned for more details. PS — Ed isn’t typing this as he has both arms casted/bandaged.”

According to media reports, Sheeran was thrown from a bike after being struck by a vehicle.

Sheeran’s Asia tour was scheduled to kick off on October 22 in Taipei, finishing with his Dubai gig at the Autisim Rocks Arena. Post a hiatus, Sheeran was later scheduled to return on tour in March 2018, heading to Australia.

Fans across the world have posted messages of support for the artist on social media. The 26-year-old singer, who is known for his on-stage solo performances, minus a band, commands a large fan following even in the Middle East. His Dubai gig sold out across all categories within hours.
