As part of the Rêveries sur les Jardins event organized by the Monaco Garden Club, the first Monaco international rose show, sponsored and presided over by Yves Piaget, was held at the Monaco Garden Club. For Piaget, the rose is living proof of a passion: that of Yves Piaget himself, as well as of the designers and jewellery craftsmen that it inspires. Not satisfied with transforming it into gold and precious stones, the House is committed to promoting and preserving the most beautiful expressions of love for the Queen of flowers. True to his commitment and his passion for roses, Yves Piaguet, to whom a rose was dedicated in 1982, was the instigator of this first ever rose show organized in the Principality of Monaco. Eighteen professional breeders from six countries (Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Switzerland and the United States) submitted more than 67 rose varieties grown in pots to be judged by an international jury. For this special occasion, the House of Piaget created a trophy in its workshops echoing the themes of its Piaget Rose Collection. This jewellery creation crafted in pink gold (30.4g) and set with a precious diamond pistil (0.5 cts) is delicately clipped onto a stylised Amaranth wood stem hand-carved by a Swiss sculptor, when it is not being worn as a brooch or a pendant. The ensemble is elegantly presented in a triptych box adorned with rose motifs. This is an expression of decorative art that brings together both the art of jewellery and the art of wood sculpture. The Piaget Rose Trophy, created and donated by the House of Piaget, was awarded to the ASTRONOMIA® varietal denomination Meiguimov variety which scored the highest points from the jury. Cultivated by French company, Meilland International, this rose particularly touched the jury with its particular shape characterised by five pale pink petals and red stamens. The ASTRONOMIA® varietal denomination Meiguimov variety has been dedicated to the Paris Observatory. HRH Princess Caroline of Hannover, President of the Monaco Garden Club, insisted on personally presenting the Piaget Rose Trophy to Mr Alain Meilland. The prize-giving was followed by a dinner at the Hermitage Hotel. The award of this trophy is a new milestone in the enduring love story between Piaget and roses.
