In Avoriaz, a winter resort town in France's Savoy region, a new seasonal installation will open its icy doors in time for the ski season. From December 12, visitors will find a 200 square meter construction made entirely of ice.
The giant igloo will include three main rooms, as well as a bar and something the organizers are calling an "ice cave." Ice sculptures will line the walls, and the space is expected to have a "luminous" ambiance.
Visitors will be welcomed for après-ski cocktails from 1:00pm at the bar, which has room for up to 200 guests. In the evening, the space turns into a restaurant, offering a €95 dinner menu. The price includes a cocktail, a dinner of Savoyard cuisine and professional guidance on the return trip to the resort on skis.
More adventurous travelers can take the experience a step farther and sleep over under the igloo (€175 per night). Not to worry: a heavy-duty down comforter is provided to shield guests from the freezing temperatures. And there's nothing like a hot breakfast to take the chill off in the morning.
This frozen structure, which is of course temporary, is scheduled to open its doors at the start of the ski season on December 12.
