The country’s premier adventure resort, Adventures on the Gorge, is kicking off whitewater rafting season on West Virginia’s New River with an array of spring rafting specials that will allow adventure-seekers to enjoy the huge waves of spring at a value price. The season opens Friday, April 3.
The springtime rafting specials are available beginning this on Saturdays and Sundays April 4 through June 14. The packages include two nights of lodging; one breakfast, lunch and dinner per person; and one full day of rafting per person. The rates on weekends through April 26 begin at $99 per person for camping. May 1 through 16, that rate starts at $119 per person. And the rate starts at $139 per person May 22 through June 14.
Travelers can choose from a variety of other accommodations including cabin suites and cabins. The rates quoted do not include taxes, fees or gratuities, and the specials cannot be combined with other discounts or offers.
“With spring runoff and rainfall, the New River is at its wildest in the spring,” said Brian Campbell, co-founder and chief marketing officer for the adventure resort. “And when our visiting adventure-seekers have had enough of the water they can get wild in the air or just keep their feet on the ground and enjoy some old-fashioned Appalachian hospitality at the resort’s restaurants and bars.”
During the spring, experienced rafters come from all over the country to challenge themselves on the Lower New River. “This is the best rafting in the country during the spring, with water comparable to the big waves of the Colorado River running through the Grand Canyon, and rafters who plan on tackling some of the other big name rivers later in the season often get their feet wet and paddling arms in shape here first,” said Campbell.
Adventures on the Gorge is situated on the rim of the New River Gorge and borders three miles of the New River Gorge National River. The region also is home of the Gauley River National Recreation Area and the Bluestone National Scenic River, making it a particularly popular destination for national park fans. In addition to rafting, Adventures on the Gorge features aerial adventures – including two acclaimed zip lines, TimberTrek Aerial Adventure Park and the highest Bridgewalk in the world – and a variety of other exhilarating experiences including rock climbing, stand up paddleboarding, mountain biking, fishing and kayaking.
