Sofitel has become the first hotel on The Palm Jumeirah to achieve Green Globe Certification (GGC) for its environmental efforts. The 543-room Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort & Spa achieved a 90% rating following a sustainability audit conducted by the Farnek Consultancy. This makes the Dubai resort is the first property in the Palm Jumeirah, and the first within the Accor group, to be Green Globe certified. “We are very proud to receive Green Globe Certification, which is the result of many months of preparation and hard work,” said the resort’s GM, Christophe Schnyder. “We shall endeavour to carry on reducing our impact on the environment and creating a better workplace.” The hotel, which opened in July 2013, has a range of environmental initiatives, including solar panels on the roof that provide 50% of the hotel’s hot water, and a system that uses the condensation from air conditioning units to irrigate the hotel’s gardens. It also has an extensive waste management programme, recycling all paper, plastic, cardboard and cooking oil. Source: Travel Daily
