Korean dining benefits from the evolution of the traditional and cultural interaction of Korea’s long history over 5,000 years. Korean cuisine is based on rice, vegetables and meats.
Experiencing Korean food at SU:RA in Jeddah included a box full of surprises from jang (sauce) to kimchi (a vegetable side dish).
Kimchi is served often. The saying “a household falls if the taste of jang is changed” points to just how critical it was to maintain the taste of the family jang through generations. Korean food is well known for being spicy, flavorful and delicious. It also offers numerous health benefits.
From meat grilled on the table before you to boiling hot stews to chilies and pickles, Korean food is almost impossible not to fall in love with. Our table was the perfect picture of Korean dining where we indulged ourselves in such a unique dining experience. This included enjoying green tea as a starter to wake up your senses before a lavish dinner.
Korean cuisine has many surprises. The first one is the immense size of the table. The second is the fact that the table is so completely covered with dishes that there is no empty space. Each dish holds a different food, which is not served in the usual sequential order of soup or salad, appetizer and main dish. Instead, all foods are placed on a single table at once in a “space-based” format. Our table was covered with kimchi, Korean barbecue, soft tofu stew, hotpot, mixed rice, fried sweet potato noodles (japchae) and Korean tempura.
Another surprise is, of course, the traditional Korean dessert, which shows you how delightful Korean cuisine can be.
These characteristics of the Korean meal have produced a cuisine rarely seen anywhere else in the world. This is the nature of the traditional Korean meal.
