The living room is often one of the most-used rooms in a home, so when redecorating or remodeling think about how you can maximize utility and comfort. And whether the focus of the room is a home entertainment system or a functional space for conversation, a good way to anchor the room is by using a focal point. Sometimes your living room will have one already, like a fireplace and mantle, but if not you can create your own.
Whether you are lounging, socializing or entertaining, these are our favorite living room centerpiece ideas for creating a space that you will love spending time in.
Sofa and Sofa Table
Section off your living room with a sofa table along the backside of your sofa. Situate your sofa in the center of the room facing the main wall. Choose a brightly colored sofa and a glass table with a few heavy decorative items, such as a stone statue or solid vase, to make for a really dramatic and sophisticated look. The pairing of the sofa and sofa table will create distinct areas in your living room that will add depth and function.
Fireplace or Mantel Living Room Centerpiece
Use a fireplace or mantel as a centerpiece to create a focal point in your living room. Choose a deep, rich wood or black fireplace to warm up a room and make it feel comfortable and inviting. For a light and airy vibe, pick a white or light color, such as stone or baby blue.
Central Sitting Area
Create a formal conversation area as your living room’s centerpiece to warm up the space and make it a place that you will enjoy entertaining guests. Use four armchairs arranged around a light glass coffee table and add some delicate décor, such as a vase or a stack of coffee table books. To create a rich, warm ambiance, use large comfortable leather arm chairs and place a wood table between them. If you’d like to create even more seating, try arranging two different sets of arm chairs on opposite ends of a long coffee table and then situating a sofa along the length of the coffee table.
Sectional Sofa
An oversized sectional sofa not only makes a beautiful living room centerpiece, it is also a practical choice that provides comfortable seating for your family and guests. Sectionals are statement sofas that will set the tone for the entire room, so go with minimalist touches for the rest of the room. Choose a white sectional and load it with decorative pillows and throws or choose a dark leather sofa that will give the room a cozy vibe.
Built-In Bookshelf
A built-in floor-to-ceiling bookshelf on a full wall of your living room will create a strong, structured focal point. In order to allow it to take the stage, keep the rest of your furniture understated. It’s a great option for those who would love a fireplace, but don’t or can’t have one. To inject your own personal style pack the shelves full of your favorite books or other items you’d like to display.
