Jeddah - Arabstoday

As many as 10 companies are vying for contracts worth a total of SR2 billion to collect and dispose of garbage in the Jeddah governorate. The Jeddah Municipality is currently examining the technical feasibility and competence of the companies that had submitted bids during a recent public bidding. Separate contracts for collection of trash from nine regions for a period of five years will be awarded to the winning bidders. Each region comes within the jurisdiction of the branch municipalities, Al-Madinah local daily reported Sunday. The municipality has made drastic changes in the terms and conditions of the contracts to implement the projects. As per these conditions, no contractor is allowed to give subcontract of the project to any other contractor without prior written approval from the municipality. Apart from this, the bidders are not allowed to offer bids for more than two regions. However, there would be an exception if their bids are for an adjacent region. In such cases, there should be detailed bidding for each region. There will be a 220 percent increase in the worth of the new contracts compared to the value of contracts awarded five years ago. At present, three companies including Dallah Al-Baraka are entrusted with the task of cleaning Jeddah for a total cost of SR900 million.
