The Council of Ministers, which held a meeting Tuesday in Algiers under the chairmanship of President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, reviewed and approved a bill amending and supplementing Law No. 01-11 dated on 3 July 2001 on fisheries and aquaculture, which provides a number of provisions meant to promote aquaculture and fisheries.
According to a statement from the Council of Ministers, the bill aims at improving the supervision of the fishing activity through the development of areas of aquaculture and fisheries and provides measures in the geo location of fishing vessels and the reinforcement of sanctions against all illegal and destructive fishing practices.
Besides, the bill provides the reviving of coral fishing with through the development of alternate operating plans of this resource and organizing the local use of coral.
The reopening of coral fishing, expected before the end of 2014, will take place once the legislation relating to this activity, suspended for 14 years, will be developed, minister of Fishing and Fishery Resources Sid-Ahmed Ferroukhi stated.
