French hypermarket chain Geant said that along with its supermarket subsidiary, Le Marché, and Emirates Wildlife Society-WWF, it managed to raise Dh200,000 from its ‘No Plastic Bag’ campaign which will go toward environmental conservation. The campaign helped save around one tonne of plastic bags every month and reduced plastic bag consumption by 24 per cent since last year. The campaign encouraged customers to switch to reusable bags and the supermarket asked them to borrow a plastic bag for 25 fils. The deposit is refunded to customers when the bag is returned.
