An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 struck off the coast of Japan's Ibaraki prefecture on Friday, Japan's weather agency said.
The quake, registering 4 on the Japanese seismic scale which peaks at 7, occurred at 9:07 p.m. local time, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The weather agency said the epicenter of the quake was at a latitude of 36.6 degrees north and a longitude of 141.2 degrees east and occurred at depth of 50 km.
No major damage or injuries were so far reported and no tsunami warning was issued.
