A fisherman hauled in what looks like an elusive giant squid off the northern coast of Spain, scientists said Sunday. The squid reportedly weighed more than 80 kilos (176.3 pounds) and was discovered floating dead off Asturias by a fisherman who brought it to the port of Gijon, thinkSPAIN said. A team from the Coordinator of Marina Species Protection and Study arrived in Gijon this weekend to take charge of the squid. CEPESMA maintains a collection of frozen giant squid at its museum in Luarca. The length of the Gijon squid was not clear, but the species that seem to thrive off the Spanish coast are believed to grow as large as nine meters (29.5 feet). From : UPI
