Environment Minister Khalid Fahmy
Cairo - MENA

Environment Minister Khalid Fahmy said on Thursday that the cabinet agreed not to build any coal-run power station without obtaining the approval of his ministry.

Speaking to MENA, Fahmy said no environmental studies have been made so far to establish coal-run power stations, noting that contacts are underway with investors on that score.

"It takes three to four years to establish a power plant," he said. "Environmental requirements are taken into consideration when choosing locations of power plants."

Fahmy stressed the coal-run power stations will be established in remote areas to maintain health of citizens.
