Morocco and Portugal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering the two countries’ strategic partnership in the energy field, Friday in Lisbon.
The agreement was signed as part of the 3rd edition of the Green Business Week (GBW), for which Morocco was the guest of honour.
It was signed by secretary general of the Ministry of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment, Abderrahim El Hafidi, and Portugal’s Secretary of State, Jorge Seguro Sanches.
Also present for the signing was Morocco’s ambassador to Portugal, Karima Benyaich.
The agreement is intended to provide conditions for a broad cooperation in the energy field between the two parties to elaborate on an action plan for energy partnership.
The MoU will also allow for the set-up of joint working groups by a committee in charge of coming up with roadmaps for its implementation.
Speaking on the occasion, El Hafidi lauded the existing strong cooperation between Morocco and Portugal, which has witnessed a remarkable dynamic over the past years.
Sanchez stressed that Portugal is determined to explore all opportunities offered through cooperation with Morocco as far as energy is concerned.
Opened on March 14, GBW was highlighted by the awarding of the GBW internationalization prize to Morocco.
