Heavy rains and snow threw the cities of Nuweiba and Dahab in Egypt for a loop Monday, as roads were closed because of the precipitation, officials said. Gibreel Feteih, a Bedouin resident of Nuweiba, said it was the first time Bedouin valleys experienced heavy rain and snow in about two years, al-Masry al-Youm reported. Authorities closed Wadi Watir Road in Nuweiba and the Magra al-Seal highway in Dahab. Adel Kassab, with the South Sinai governorate, said the rains knocked out power in some areas and interrupted operation of several sewage stations. The report did not say how much precipitation fell, or how widespread the power outage was.
