Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, today stressed that the UAE is fully committed to international efforts towards curbing climate change and detrimental human impact on the environment by promoting rationalised consumption of energy and decreasing carbon dioxide emissions.
In a statement on the occasion of Earth Hour, a worldwide movement for the planet organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), he said that the UAE, by participating in the event, aims to promote environmental awareness about the escalating danger of carbon emissions across the world.
"The government of the UAE takes great interest in preserving and rationalising energy consumption in line with the principles of green economy to build a future that is environmentally more sustainable for the generations to come," Al Mazrouei said.
He noted that his ministry continues to encourage initiatives and projects aimed at reducing energy waste.
Initiatives launched in 2015 showed that a majority of people in the UAE are considered economic energy consumers, he said.
Earth Hour is held worldwide annually to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour towards the end of March, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.
