Hurricane Lane, moving well off Mexico\'s western coast, should lose its punch and become a remnant low in a few days, U.S. forecasters said Tuesday. Lane, a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, was 1,180 miles west of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico, moving north-northwest at 9 mph, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 5 a.m. EDT advisory. No coastal watches or warnings were in effect. Forecasters said Lane should turn gradually toward the northwest and west during the next 48 hours. Lane also was expected to weaken and become a remnant low in a couple of days, the hurricane center said. Hurricane force winds extended outward from Lane\'s center up to 15 miles, while tropical storm force winds extended outward up to 80 miles.
