New and used cars bought in the UAE will soon come with a five-year service contract legally binding dealers or agents to fix problems with the vehicles over the period. The new contract introduced by the Ministry of Economy guarantees the five-year service warranty. Dealers or agents who violate it will be fined and could be shut down. Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Hashem Al Nuaimi, Director of the Consumer Protection Department, said: \"Car dealers and agents shall provide spare parts for five years as of the date of signature. They will extend after-sales service and provide their telephone number to consumers so they can be contacted in case of any emergencies.\" The contract, which comes into force on October 1, stipulates that faulty parts must be replaced if they fail on three occasions.
