Car sales of German auto giant Volkswagen in Russia doubled in the first nine months of 2011 to 78,917 vehicles, the company said on Tuesday. September 2011 was the most profitable month for the company in Russia as it sold 11,987 cars, a 96 percent growth year-on-year. The sales of Volkswagen Polo sedans stood at 31,300 cars, the sales of Volkswagen Tiguan grew 10 percent to 11,000, while Volkswagen Golf sales rose by about 120 percent to 9,779 cars in January-September 2011, the company said in a statement. The company also sold 6,911 Touareg cars, an 82 percent growth year-on-year, 6,373 Passat cars, and 3,707 Polo hatchbacks, a 67 percent increase compared with the first nine months of 2010.
