The Mazda MX-5 Miata is getting a bit long in the tooth, having been on the market, though with a few significant upgrades, for nearly seven years. To keep customers interested, the company has released a number of special-edition models. The latest is an appearance package for the PRHT (power retractable hard top) model, and it looks pretty smart if you ask us.The color scheme is a simple monochrome black-on-white in the example image, but the 2012 MX-5 Miata Special Edition will be available in one other exclusive color not yet revealed. The white on the preview car is called Crystal White Pearl.Built off of the Grand Touring model as a starting point, the Special Edition also gets the Premium and Suspension packages, which include Bilstein shocks, upgraded springs, Bluetooth hands-free phone system, a six-speed short-throw manual or six-speed automatic with paddle shifters, and the 17-inch gunmetal black wheels shown. As the first PRHT model available with a non-body-color top--which will only be available in black for the Special Edition--the new Special Edition model is unique in addition to its special-edition status. The full details on the car will be revealed on its debut in Chicago next week, so check back for more--and stay up to date on all of our Chicago Auto Show coverage at our show page.
