Toyota is pinning most of its hopes on a new, yet unrevealed compact car platform. They say that 40 of the cars they sell could be built on it within a few years, and potentially the most important of these are the new Corolla and Auris, one of which we expect to arrive by the end of the year. This is a brand new car, obviously using the Auris front end styling we showed you during the sightings of the five-door C-car, but with a bigger boot. This car will obviously compete for customers with the new Kia cee’d and Hyudai i30. Toyota has already announced the new Corolla and Auris will make their market arrival in 2012, produced at two of their European factories. The manufacturer plans to invest €265 million ($355 million) in their facilities in order to bring forward three C-segment contenders - the Auris 3- and 5-door models to be built in the UK, and a Corolla sedan assembled in Turkey. The car could use new BMW four-cylinder diesel engines, replacing the old 2.2-liter which wasn’t very popular.
