Volkswagen has revealed the new 181bhp Golf GTD, and it can return 67.3mpg and 109g/km of CO2 Volkswagen has revealed another member of the latest Mk7 Golf, with the hot diesel GTD model. The Golf GTD is due to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and is expected to go on sale in the UK in July. It’s powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine with 181bhp and 379Nm of torque. Those figures are 13bhp and 30Nm more than the old model, which also weighs about 32kg more. As a result, Volkswagen claims the new GTD accelerates from 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 143mph. That’s 0.6 seconds and 5mph better than the outgoing car. There are even more impressive improvements to fuel economy, though, with the new GTD claiming fuel economy of 67.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 109g/km – that’s 12mpg and 20g/km better. The GTD gets a new, more aggressive look feature a muscular boykit, 17-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler. Two chromed tailpipes sit on one side of the new rear bumper. The interior gets a GTD steering wheel, tartan cloth sports seats and some stainless steel pedals. autoexpress
