SEAT, like all other mainstream manufacturers, has its own green program going on, spawning cars like the Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive (a hybrid) or the Altea XL Electric Ecomotive. Two of the Leons and one Altea have been delivered to the City Hall of Barcelona for testing purposes, before the cars go into production. The 3 cars will be tested over a period of 6 months, in the municipal fleet, in order for SEAT to gather information and assess the performance and overall behavior of the cars over a longer period of time. Ramon Paredes, Executive Vice-president for Governmental and Institutional Relations at SEAT and the Volkswagen Group in Spain, said “once more SEAT is showing its links to emblematic projects such as development of the electric car for the future of the country”. He also underscored the fact that “we are the only brand with the capacity to think through, develop and produce an electric vehicle in Spain”. If no catastrophic system failure stops the project in its tracks, we’re pretty sure the 3 cars will pass the 6-month test with flying colors, with production expected to begin in 2013.
