Satellite modulation technology provider NovelSat has been chosen by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to optimise its transmission of all major sporting events such as the 2012 Olympics Games, Formula 1, and Euro 2012 football tournament. NovelSat’s NS3 satellite modulation technology will see use in distributing news and sports content within the global network of the world’s largest broadcasting association, Specifically it will use NS3-powered NS1000 and NS2000 satellite modulators and demodulators to improve bandwidth efficiency, drive down costs and improve fade margins. The EBU serves 85 national media organisations in 56 countries in and around Europe. It represents its Members and promotes the values and distinctiveness of public service media in Europe and around the world. The Eurovision and Euroradio networks deliver news, sports, events and music to EBU Members and other media organisations. Services to Members range from legal advice, technical standardisation and development to coproduction and exchange of quality European content. The Network Department is in charge of providing high-quality live and file contribution services to EBU Members and customers. The organisation says that it chose NovelSat after technology analysis and comparative evaluation of available solutions and was taken by features such as the new equipment’s backward compatibility with DVB-S2 for the transitional period. "Following extensive testing, we have selected the NovelSat’s solution due to the superior bandwidth efficiency, and all-around performance, notably when modulating large carriers said Paolo Pusterla, Head of Procurement & Partnerships at the EBU. Graham Warren, EBU Director of Network added, "One critical task in maintaining the EBU’s leading market position is the need to reduce the cost of services provided over the EBU network. Our users’ demand for higher bandwidth is always increasing and the NovelSat solution allows us to substantially increase our payload bandwidth without increasing our satellite resource costs.” For his part, David Furstenberg, Chairman of NovelSat said, "Sport is the avant-garde of television that constantly pushes the performance envelope of HDTV, 3DTV and newer technologies.”
