Cairo - Akram Ali

Magdy Al-Galad, Chief Editor of Egypt's Al-Masry Al-Aoum newspaper declared his resignation as editor, saying his deicsion was "irreversible" "I have reached an agreement with the board, and everything was decided in an intimate way and with mutual respect," he said. According to the newspaper, Al-Galad said in a meeting with the editors on Saturday night that his decision was "not based on financial reasons," but for his desire to "do domething new after eight successful years in Al-Masry Al-Youm".  He also stated that "his time in the newspaper was the most distinguished of his entire career", describing it as "irrepeatable". Al-Galad praised Al-Masry Al-Youm staff as "they are the main reason behind its success and incompetable position," adding: "I write the least in this paper, you (staff) have made this successful, you built my fame and recognition, whether i'm starting a job in a TV show or another newspaper this will never be competition with this newspaper." Al-Galad ended his words with: "This is my last day here, I leave this newspaper while it is number one in Egypt. The board is working eagerly for the future of this institution, they are managing the transmission period in a highly professional way." For their part, the board said they will declare the name of Al-Galad's successor soon, giving priority to in-houe candidates. The paper has shared ownership major Egyptian businessmen, includinf Salah Diab, Ahmed Bahgat and Naguib Saweress. Al-Galad, who took over as editor-in-chief in 2004,  also works as a part-time lecturer in Cairo University's media faculty. While he started his career as reporting journalist, he was born in 1964 at Sharqiya province.
