Parker Sawyers and Tika Sumpter star in a first Southside with You photo.
The English actor and 35-year-old American actress channel a young Barack and Michelle Obama in the still. The upcoming film will bring to life the couple's first date and kiss in Chicago, Ill., in 1989.
The movie is written and directed by Richard Tanne, and began principal photography in the Windy City this month. Producer Tracey Bing announced the project in December 2014.
"Stephanie [Allain] and I are excited to produce this smart and timeless film that sheds light on one of the great love stories of our time," she said at the time. "[Tanne] really captures the essence of that romantic connection between Barack and Michelle that is so evident in the way that they look at each other."
Obama and his wife, then Michelle Robinson, visited the Art Institute of Chicago and attended a screening of the Spike Lee film Do the Right Thing on their first date. The couple shared their first kiss later that evening outside an ice cream parlor.
Sawyers has appeared in such films as Hyde Park on Hudson, Zero Dark Thirty and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Sumpter is known for playing Raina Thorpe on Gossip Girl and Jenna Rice on The Game, and currently stars as Candance Young on The Have and Have Nots.
