A two-day meeting of the Arab Satellite Communications Organisation (Arabsat) Board of Directors, hosted by the Sultanate, started at Grand Hayat Hotel Muscat on Tuesday in the presence of undersecretaries of communications and CEOs members of Arabsat Board.
Said bin Hamdoon Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Port and Maritime Affairs said that the meeting covers a number of issues including the final account of the Organsiation for 2016, the reports of the governance team, the revision committee and the steering committee. He added that the reports will be raised to the general assembly meeting for the ministers of communications for approval.
Adel Al Tarif, Minister of Culture and Media at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and outgoing chairman of the general assembly delivered a speech where he transferred the chairmanship to the Sultanate.
The meeting dealt with a number of important issues including presenting the annual report, electing new board members and approving the final statements for 2016.
It should be noted that the Arabsat General Assembly will hold a meeting on Thursday under the chairmanship of Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications.
The board of directors of Arabsat includes nine states namely Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Libya, Sudan, Algeria and Djibouti.
