The general entertainment channel Maurya TV is to widen its coverage to Nepal, following success in the Indian states of Bihar and Jharkhand. "Viewers of Nepal are Hindi and Bhojpuri speaking people and this is helping Maurya TV connect with them," Manish Jha, director, Maurya TV is quoted as saying by Exchange4Media. "From the last six months Maurya TV is at the number one position, in terms of TRP [TV ratings points], in Bihar and Jharkhand. Our content mix not only entertains the viewers but also keeps them updated on happenings that are likely to affect their lives," he added. Showing daily soap operas, news, talk shows and movies, the channel is backed by filmmaker Prakash Jha. A test run in Nepal has, Maurya TV says, found acceptance among its target group. Future plans are also to spread the channel's reach to Bengal and Uttar Pradesh in India.
