The upheaval at The View continues as ABC has passed on renewing freshman co-host Nicolle Wallace's contract for a second season.
Variety said the daytime chat show's producers were disappointed Wallace -- the program's lone conservative and a former White House communications director under President George W. Bush -- hadn't sparked more controversy throughout Season 18. They reportedly also did not like her lack of knowledge when it came to celebrity gossip.
The entertainment industry trade newspaper said Wallace has been invited to occasionally appear as a contributor on the show, but she has not declared whether she will stay on for a diminished role.
An ABC News representative declined to comment on the report, and Wallace's spokesman didn't respond to an email and phone call seeking a statement, Variety said.
Wallace was not on Wednesday's edition of The View. Her fellow freshman panelist Rosie Perez recently announced she would not return for a second season.
Coming back to the show for Season 19 will be longtime moderator Whoopi Goldberg, and new hires Raven-Symone and Michelle Collins.
