The media center of Al Azhar has said that a page named "Al Ahzar Al Yom" does not represent the religious institution and is falsely speaking on its behalf.
The page is provoking action against state institutions and is defaming national figures, the media center said, warning that it adopts a sectarian discourse with the aim to foment tension among segments of the Egyptian society.
Pages as such are run by electronic committees affiliated with terrorist groups and do not represent Al Azhar, the center noted.
Al Azhar is keen on maintaining the national fabric and has established the "Family House" in cooperation with the Egyptian Church to unite Egyptians, the center stressed.
The only Al Azhar page on facebook is run by the media center. Al Azhar portal is also the only website of the religious institution on the internet.
