A video showing the guts of a dead sperm whale exploding in the Faeroe Islands has gone viral since it was posted on YouTube. KVF, the Faeroese national broadcast company, reported the whale's innards spewed out as Bjarni Mikkelsen, a Faeroese whale expert, opened it up. Video shows Mikkelsen, clad in head-to-foot rain gear, quickly dodging backward as gases, liquids and internal organs pour from the hole he had just drilled in the carcass's side. The explosion apparently came from gases caused by decomposition and trapped inside the whale until Mikkelsen opened it up. The plan is to put the whale's skeleton on exhibit in a museum. The Faeroe Islands, which are under Danish sovereignty, are about halfway between Norway and Iceland.
