Netflix on Tuesday began letting people share shows they love at the online streaming television service with friends from leading social network Facebook.
After watching a film or television show episode at Netflix, viewers will be asked whether they would like to recommend it to friends at Facebook, according to director of product innovation Cameron Johnson.
"You know that feeling when you've watched something really great, something that moves you or makes you laugh, and you immediately think of someone else who would love it too?" Johnson asked rhetorically in a blog post.
"It's the feeling of wanting your friends and family to enjoy the show just as much as you did."
People are shown profile pictures of their Facebook friends, and can pick those whom they wish to recommend shows.Suggestions will pop up when next friends log into Netflix, and do not get posted at Facebook, according to Johnson.
People who haven't linked Netflix and Facebook accounts will receive viewing recommendations from friends as private messages at the social network.
"The next time you watch a great story on Netflix, passing it along to someone you care about will be just a click away," Johnson said.
