Dutch Mail Order Company Wehkamp is going to build one of the largest mega distribution centers in Europa, in the Dutch city Zwolle, Dutch media reported Monday. The company said it wanted to be ready for a new future in which the ordering and delivery of packages occur on the same day. The new center will have room for 4 million articles. The new system that runs with 468 automated trains is expected to send 80,000 packages per day. According to the latest figures published by the Central Bureau for Statistics (CBS), online shopping is growing rapidly in the Netherlands. In addition, figures from Dutch mail company PostNL show that due to online shopping, the number of delivered packages increased with 8 percent in the third quarter of 2013. Wehkamp expects that within ten years, the Dutch consumer will purchase half of its goods online.
