Zach Braff will direct a pilot for dark comedy Self Promotion at MTV.
The series centers around Katie Preston, an overworked assistant whose boss goes missing. Preston fears she will be the prime suspect, and starts to cover up the crime scene and make decisions in her boss' absence. She decides to launch her own investigation to discover what happened and exonerate herself.
Mark Bianculli will write the script, with Steve Yockey as executive producer. MTV has two other pilots in the works -- comedy Ken Jeong Made Me Do It and Scream.
Braff is best known for his role as Dr. John Dorian on Scrubs, and directed seven episodes of the NBC series. The 39-year-old actor has also helmed films Garden State (2004) and Wish I Was Here (2014).
