EU approves €150m for school healthy eating scheme

The European Union (EU) will allocate 150 million euros (159.64 million U.S. dollars) to distribute fruit and vegetables in schools, a statement said Wednesday.
This scheme, proposed by the European Commission, aims to reach 12 million children aged between six to 10 across the 25 participating EU Member States, with Sweden, Finland and United Kingdom opting out.
It was established in 2009 to reverse the trend of declining fruit and vegetable consumption and specifically targeted children.
The initiative supports efforts to establish healthier eating habits amongst school children and combat child obesity, the statement said.
