Qatargas has for the second year running, participated as a sponsor at the Annual Career Fair for Qatar students in the UK. This is the seventh edition of the annual event organized in London by the Qatari Embassy in the UK. The Fair was held on 21st and 22nd February attracted over 250 students studying at various universities and colleges across the UK.
Attended by Dr. Mohammed Abdul Wahid Al-Hammadi, Qatar’s Minister of Education and Higher Education, the Fair was officially opened by His Excellency Khalid Al-Mansouri, the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the United Kingdom, at the welcome reception on 21st February.
The Qatargas delegation to the Career Fair included Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdulla Al-Thani, Chief Operating Officer, Engineering and Ventures, Abdulaziz Al-Mannai, Human Resources Manager, Adnan Al-Shaibi, Learning & Development Manager, Ali Al-Sulaiti, Head of Qatarization & National Development and representatives from the Company’s Human Resources, Learning & Development and Public Relations Departments.
As a sponsor of the event, Qatargas delivered a presentation to the students during the reception. Ali Al-Sulaiti, Head of Qatarization & National Development delivered the presentation which highlighted Qatargas’ global importance as the world’s largest LNG producer and the Company’s diverse high calibre workforce comprising professionals from over 60 countries. Ali also spoke about the Graduate Development programme offered by Qatargas that ensures graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to take up their targeted positions at the end of the programme.
Students visiting the Qatargas booth at the Fair were able to learn more about the career routes and options available at Qatargas as well as the scholarship and internship programmes offered. Qatargas offers scholarship opportunities for Qatari nationals at leading international universities and colleges, in Qatar and abroad, in specific disciplines which are critical for Qatargas’ continued business success. The Company also runs a Summer Internship Programme for Qatari national high school and university students.
More than 30 students are currently studying at various colleges in the UK as part of the Qatargas overseas scholarship programme. Qatargas representatives met with these students at the Fair and discussed their progress.
Qatargas is actively pursuing its goal of quality Qatarization. Qualified Qatari nationals work in key positions across the organization. Qatargas’ aim is to continue to attract, develop and retain talented Qatari nationals. Participation in events like the UK Career Fair helps strengthen the Company’s Qatarization programme as it provides an opportunity to reach out to young nationals pursuing higher education abroad and highlight to them, the excellent career opportunities available for them in Qatargas.
